Guest Article: Brotherhood Heroes 1 by Warfactory

Bannermen!

Did you miss our articles? We hope so! So… we’re back with the 7th (and this time really the last one) article about Brotherhood. To be honest, we didn’t plan to publish this article in English either, but seeing how you enjoyed the previous ones we simply had to!

We will be covering the Hero Box and let’s begin with our good friend Thoros. He comes to us as Thoros of Myr, the Ember.

A grievous wound, aye, but Thoros healed it. There’s never been no better healer.

The Red Priest costs us 4 points and provides a significant amount of healing as a NCU. The more ranks enemies lose, the more tokens Thoros receives, to heal even more Wounds. As this replaces the effects on the Tactics Board, we can claim the crown and still benefit from an effect which suits the Brotherhood faction better than the Panic Test.

I’m Edric Dayne, the … the Lord of Starfall.

Edric Dayne, Loyal Squire is just twelve years old, yet he brings more value than many seasoned veterans. As Beric’s Vassal he can use the Lightning Lord’s tactic cards and benefit from any additional effects too. Regroup can come in real clutch especially when we also have the Sudden Retreat card in our Tactics deck. It is also worth to mention, he can be attached to Thoros’ unit ignoring usual Attachment limits.

When he worked, nothing existed for him but metal, bellows, fire. The hammer was like part of his arm.

Gendry, the Bull costs us 2 points (remember about point reduction from the Brotherhood without Banners special rules) but gives a unit insane survivability. Resilience becomes much better after the changes to Boisterous Charisma in S05 as it will not be turned off by this ability. Improved Defences is the cherry on the top and another reason to claim Crown on the tactic board.

Anguy, the Archer is rather pricey at 2 points without our attachment cost reduction, but he has two abilities that increase mobility: Outflank and Sudden Retreat. At first, we were a little bit disappointed that such a great archer doesn’t have any abilities supporting ranged attacks. However, we thought of how good Brotherhood Archers already are and it would most definitely push their power level a little too much.

Hot Pie looked like Hot Pie.

Fan favorite, Hot Pie, the Baker helps us to get rid of those nasty Condition tokens. We may no longer be afraid of being Weakened after using The Forgotten Fellowship tactics card. He can also heal 1 Wound when we Control – yes, you guessed correctly – Crown on the tactics board.

(…) her eyes were the most terrible thing. Her eyes saw him, and they hated

Oh, well… She is definitely one of the most powerful 4 point NCUs in the game. Vengeance at any cost is an absolutely devastating ability and even more effective against cavalry and any units that benefit from the free actions as they will suffer more Wounds. And having in mind we can copy her influence with Jaqen… it is truly terrifying. Re-roll of Attack Dice in Melee Attacks is also a nice addition.

There is a significant drawback though.

Not being able to field Beric is definitely not great as both of them are very, very good. Obviously, it’s very thematic (and good from the competitive point of view, we can’t even think how good they will be in the same army).

But there is something more…

This ability is a double-edged sword. Catelyn will be simply amazing against Lannisters and Boltons but on the other hand it limits our options when constructing our armies. We love how thematic this card is.

Now let’s see what she can offer us as Commander.

Oh, that’s scary. Maybe the Boltons can learn a little from her on how to threaten their enemies.

Horrific Visage and Intimidating Presence makes any enemy think twice (or even thrice) before attacking Lady Stoneheart’s unit. -4 to Panic Test and +1 to Wound would shred most units apart.

The harder we’re hit, the harder we’ll punish our enemy for it. We should not be expecting to use this card on Catelyn’s Unit for the reasons explained above, but if someone is brave (or crazy) enough to attack her Unit… Well, we would be happy to return the favor!

We didn’t expect this card here, but it’s a nice surprise. If we really need to inflict a large number of Wounds we have the perfect tool for that, but do keep in mind it comes at a cost.

Vengeance in Blood is a brand-new card. Another source of mobility or a possible charge/attack. It seems quite powerful as we don’t have to attack or charge an enemy who has destroyed a rank of our units but any unit on the table. Every unit near Catelyn will be in constant danger. Our cavalry could easily move into our enemy’s flank after a rank of our expendable Peasant Levy got destroyed.

What are your thoughts about Catelyn Stark?  Are you #teamLadyStoneheart or #teamLightningLord? Both characters are great, but we can have only one in our army. We just can’t decide!

That’s all for the Brotherhood without Banners and it is time to say goodbye (For real this time). We’re sure that next weeks ahead will be full of discussions about this faction. We can’t even count the number of messages on the-hollow-hill channel on discord, but we believe we’ll see much more before the premiere. This proves that the design team did an amazing job and it’s probably the most exciting A Song of Ice and Fire: The Miniatures Game premiere ever. We’re both happy and proud that we could be part of it. Our maesters and ravens are always ready when it’s time to bring news to the community.

We hope to see many of you at Realms of Battle Europe 2024. Do zobaczenia!
